The Dogbedstore is the direct Australian outlet for Downtown Doggy and is the creation of Margo Plowright. Like many businesses it started from a passion. In this case when trying to provide a designer wardrobe for her two baby boys, Tosca and Squirt.  In 2003 it became apparent to Margo that it was next to impossible to buy funky dog apparel anywhere in Australia. "All the shops had the same products"  With the exception of a few designs they all looked the same.  "We just don't have the market they do in the USA"

Margo tested the online market in Australia by ordering products online, and found that most of the companies manufacturing dog products here had produced inferior products, that had a home made look about them. We are determined to do one thing better than the competition in Australia, to deliver unique and high quality canine couture, beds, carriers and accessories catering to pet owners with distinguished taste.

Margo started researching on the internet worldwide and realised the only place to start was the USA. She kissed the boys goodbye and attended a dog expo in Chicago. Margo purchased many fantastic labels to give her online business in Australia the kick start it needed. She would create a site that would provide Aussie pooches the designer labels from overseas, they so deserved. Then the next challenge is to deliver our funky clothing range at a reasonable price that competes with the international audience the internet provides. Hey, we love a challenge! Not content with doing one thing at a time, we are juggling many hats and producing many lines at once. We apologise for the web site taking longer to be completed.

Downtown Doggy has already introduced some of its own Aussie dog beds and has already employed 15 hand knitters who are currently knitting some great designs for the Aussie pooches for this winter. Not only are our designs chic and adorable, but also very functional and comfortable to wear. We have imported lots of wools from Italy, Germany and the UK to create a wild range. Tosca and Squirt love the overseas labels their mum buys and always lend a paw to open the mail on delivery. Then there is a fight to see who does the modelling.

We are currently working on genuine screen printed t-shirts and sweatshirts, that are sure to please our couture conscious canines! Our extensive research tells us that these will make some cute international doggies very happy also. T shirts with attitude because we cater to dogs who like to stand out from the pack.

Over the coming weeks we will introduce new items from overseas as well as Downtown Doggy limited edition products that are as hip as your pet!

Now to the two inspirations, Tosca and Squirt. They are both much loved toy poodles, and spoilt at every chance.  When you think of the unconditional love, unfaltering devotion and loyalty they show us...Blessed comes to mind!
